Your property’s ranking on FlipKey and TripAdvisor will not be identical. The ranking algorithm is updated on a regular basis and property listings should naturally shift on each site.
Listings with both highly rated reviews and quality content have an advantage in the rankings on both FlipKey and TripAdvisor. Listings are sorted on FlipKey and TripAdvisor based on a number of factors including guest reviews (both the number of reviews and average rating), photos, use of up-to-date availability calendar, and an overall measurement of traveler interest. Our sort order emphasizes what travelers are looking for when searching for a place to stay. Unlike many other vacation rental websites, property managers and owners cannot pay more to be ranked higher for their location.
Travelers also have the ability to sort and filter properties based on preferences (such as bedrooms, availability, and price) and these selections take precedence over other criteria.
Bottom line: if you’re actively collecting guest reviews, have lots of great photos, keeping your availability calendar up-to-date, featuring a special offer, and using an attractive title, then you’re giving your listing the best opportunity to rank highly in the default sort order on both FlipKey and TripAdvisor.
We do not currently offer any premium advertising on FlipKey or TripAdvisor. To increase your property’s exposure, we recommend that you optimize your property listing to display highly in the property index page.
The spotlight listings are placements specifically designed to help newly added and undiscovered listings receive marketing exposure. The spotlight property is updated regularly and there are no additional fees to have your property advertised in this promotional section.
